At Small World Day Nursery we are proud to use the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. This approach values the child as strong, capable and resilient individuals who are rich with wonder and knowledge. Reggio does not follow a set system of beliefs but rather is based around certain fundamental principles about how children learn. Each Reggio Emilia teacher uses an adaptation of the approach tailored to the specific needs of their community and children in their care.
Every child brings with them deep curiosity and potential and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it.
The Small World Day the Reggio Way!! In Small World we pride ourselves as being outward looking and forward thinking. We see our children as citizens with a voice and with their own values and goals. We as their guides aim to intervene as little as possible but instead observe, listen and interpret their actions in order to provide interesting and stimulating experiences and resources to allow them to develop and grown in confidence. Reggio and Small World take a child lead approach, our projects aren't planned but instead they emerge based on the child's interest.
The Environment is the Third Teacher!! The Reggio Emilia approach believes that the environment is the third teacher and we at Small World are extremely lucky to have a number of wonderful outdoor areas which we utilise on a daily basis. Come rain or shine our children are able to continue to explore and adventure outside due to our sheltered Piazza connecting our Nursery building and Afterschool Den.
